Exhibition at Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante

São Paulo, 1955

The artistic-photographic calendar of the F . C. C. B.'s artistic-photographic calendar for 1955 began with a solo exhibition of photographs by MARCEL GIRó, the outstanding amateur from Bandeirante who recently returned from Spain - his homeland - where he spent a long period of time.

Giró is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding representatives of the kind of photography that has gained a special revival among us due to its bold angles and compositions, its play with lines, light and shadows (one of Giró's favorite themes), which critics have called the "escola paulista" and which Giró, during his stay in Barcelona, was able to transmit with eloquent success, to the point of starting, with other like-minded people, a real revolution in classical, academic photography, which until then had been practiced there by the vast majority of "aficionados".
Giró had numerous and significant successes in the salons and competitions of Spain and, on his return to São Paulo, he received an expressive tribute from the leaders and associates of the Agrupación Fotografica de Cataluña.
The exhibition that Giró held at the F . C. C. Bandeirante, confirmed the qualities that made him one of the most outstanding figures in national photography, and was a great and well-deserved success.
