PALMIRA PUIG (c.1950 - c.1975)

Palmira Puig's work is inscribed in the formal criteria of the São Paulo school. With an approach perhaps more delicate, and more loose than that of her husband Marcel Giró and other authors, Palmira was one of the few women active in the Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante, in Sao Paulo in the 1950s, along with Gertrudes Altschul, Barbara Mors, Alice Kanji and Dulce Carneiro, among others.
The low presence of women in the FCCB is a reflection of the feminine condition in Brazilian society in the 1950s.

In this sense, it should be noted that Puig was not "in the shadow" of her husband, as has happened on so many occasions in the art world, and as has been published in some media.
Palmira Puig's photography is spontaneous and contains a balance between free observation and concern for composition, contrast and textures. Palmira is interested in the forms she abstracts from objects and landscapes, but also in the more human and social aspect of reality.
